Slippery Elm Bark

Latin Name: Ulmus fulva

Other Common Names: Red Elm, Moose Elm, Indian Elm, and Winged Elm

Effect: Demulcent; Emollient

Traditional Uses:

Mucus, lungs, labor, digestion, sore throat, diarrhea, skin conditions, toxins, intestines, colon, urinary tract, stomach ulcers, arthritis.

 

 

Slippery Elm Drink, this is a soothing drink for stomach or lung problems, especially when food cannot be held down. It is also great for infants that are having difficulty eating; it will give them the needed nourishment to overcome illness.  It can be given to the infant in a bottle or, if the baby is too weak to suck on a bottle, given by dropper or spoon.

 

Bring to boil 2 cups milk (nut, rice or soy milk is preferred)

Pour into a blender and add:

1-teaspoon honey

A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg

1 rounded teaspoon slippery elm powder

1 raw egg

Cover and blend well. Best when drunk warm.  Oh, did I say to drink it warm?  HEY!!!  Drink it warm!
